Coronation Street fans are calling for a major confrontation after Carla Connor’s latest brush with death. The much-loved character has endured a challenging and dramatic start
to the year, and viewers are eager for closure. It all began with concerns that Carla’s psychosis may have returned, only for it to be revealed that she was suffering from sepsis,
a life-threatening infection. While the infection was brought under control, it left Carla in need of a kidney transplant.
This wasn’t the first time Carla required a transplant. In 2018, her late half-brother Aidan Connor donated a kidney to her. This time, her brother Rob Donovan stepped in as the donor after his son, Bobby Crawford, brought the convicted murderer back into Carla’s life. Initially, Carla was hesitant but ultimately agreed to have Rob tested, only to discover that he was a match. However, her instincts were correct—Rob was not motivated by altruism, but by the opportunity to escape prison.
Rob, who was locked up for the murder of Tina McIntyre, had hoped to use the transplant as a means of fleeing. But Carla’s girlfriend, Detective Lisa Swain, had other plans. She tricked Rob into undergoing the operation before he could escape, but things quickly took a dark turn. Rob and a prison officer, Mandy, kidnapped Carla after the surgery, and a dramatic showdown ensued. Carla, weakened from the transplant, summoned the strength to push Rob down a flight of stairs. Lisa, who had been knocked unconscious, came to and declared Rob dead. However, by the time the police arrived, Rob had mysteriously vanished.
Fast forward to the end of March, and Rob was seen back on the street. He sought help from his ex-fiancée, Tracy Barlow, who reluctantly agreed to hide him. But as Rob’s health continued to decline, his behavior became more erratic. When Tracy insisted on calling an ambulance, Rob, bleeding from his surgical wound, threatened her with a gun and forced her to phone Carla. His desperation intensified as he revealed to Carla that his plan was to make her watch him die, so the memory would haunt her forever.
In a moment of bravery, Tracy seized the opportunity to escape and alerted Lisa, who then swapped places with her. Lisa initially complied with Rob’s demands, but when he put the gun down, she grabbed the weapon. A struggle between Lisa and Rob ensued, resulting in a gunshot. While Rob was quickly arrested, the horror didn’t end there—Lisa found Carla’s daughter, Betsy, injured in the aftermath, having been struck by the bullet in the upper arm. Betsy’s injury could potentially alter her life forever.
With Rob now out of the picture, many Coronation Street fans are clamoring for a final scene between Carla and Rob to bring closure to their toxic relationship. Some viewers are hoping for a face-off where Carla can tell Rob how he almost cost her everything—her family and her future. One fan commented, “We need a final scene where Carla tells Rob he nearly destroyed the most precious things in her life.” Others want Carla and Lisa to stand united as a family, showing Rob that they’ve moved on. However, there are also fans who feel Rob doesn’t deserve any more screen time, with one commenting, “He deserves nothing but to be left to rot.”
As Carla navigates the aftermath of the traumatic events, fans are left wondering whether she and Lisa will ever confront Rob again, or if the family can finally move on from his dark influence. What’s next for Carla and her future with Lisa and Betsy remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—this storyline is far from over.
